The word Muragarasu describes a flock of crows. This drawing’s design, made with black ink and red acrylic, is inspired by the Japanese flag. Originally intended to be just a small weekend project of a few hours, the image eventually evolved into a more extensive artwork both in scale and scope to unify my own designs with a more Japanese aesthetic. The tribal silhouette of the dragon stands at the core of this idea, with countless flocks of crows emerging from within the shape of its wings. To some they spell doom and tragedy, to others, they may be messengers of good fortune instead. They are propagators of transformation and change and engulf the viewer. The scarlet river flowing from the dragon’s claws denotes the color in my art, which like blood lends life giving hues to the bodies of many of my paintings.
