The floating realms of the celestial gods of Japanese mythology drift through the sea of clouds, far above the cityscape in rural Japan. Dragons, phoenixes and all manner of beings that dwell in the heavens meet here and join to celebrate the night once more.
The goddess Benzaiten, in the form of a grand lily-white serpent, calls one of these islands her home as well. Eyes full of envy, she meanderingly slithers along the abyss into the moral world.
In a tragedy of irony, she, the patroness of rivers, flow, language, poetry and dance, is unable to join in the festivities on the far-off island. Despite her own divine nature and kinship to dragons, she remains trapped within her own small sphere of influence as a flightless serpent. At least some worshipers remain to keep her company.
