After a trip to the Valley of Kings in Egypt, I felt the need to emulate the style of the ancient Egyptians. This design represented a major milestone of the series Momentary Dreams and references the many photos and impressions I collected during my visit to Luxor. While I personally didn’t particularly enjoy the techniques I ended up using, I had great fun in conjuring up a hopefully clever design that would do justice to Egyptian iconography. In terms of color, I only mixed the tones that I was able to observe myself within the old tombs. I also chose to work on Papyrus which in itself brought many new challenges as well.

The shape of my depiction imitates a scarab, with the wings of the two people in the center simultaneously forming the wings of the scarab. The gods depicted here, which each make up the beetle’s legs are: Toth, Ra and Anubis on the left; Nekhbet, Horus and Hapi on the right.
