For several months before the creation of this little painting, while I was still working on my 100 Ink series, I had the thought that a Nigiri Sushi would make for quite a cozy bed to fit a green frog. Although I knew that I needed to be patient until I had gained enough confidence to translate this idea into color.
The salmon serves as a blanket, and the rice as a mattress. The frog, green like wasabi, nestles comfortably in between. To make the rice a little more visible, I added some extra color. Pretty quickly I realized just how tedious it can be to render rice properly, especially on a predominantly white background.
