ISEKAI NO INSHOU

In spring 2020 I was given the generous opportunity to open an art exhibit inside the Japanese restaurant Sakai in Vienna. The title of the exhibition “Isekai no Inshou” translated from Japanese means “impressions of another world”. As part of the initial display, I showcased most of the artworks I had made from 2018 to 2020. In 2021, I was able to create and add a few new pieces, which allowed me to rework the overall impact of the exhibit. Since the Japanese culture itself is of great interest to me personally, many of these works are strongly influenced by Japanese mythology. This is particularly well reflected within the short stories I write as part of my larger projects.

In order to enable the restaurant’s guests to peer into the many worlds of my imagination, an exclusive exhibition booklet was made which spotlights the artworks as well as their respective stories. As a supplement to the larger theme of my exhibition, I also present many smaller works of art, which express the topics and thoughts that I encounter throughout my days. I featured images of both my “50 Momentary Dreams” and my “100 Ink” series, which can be found in full in my online gallery.

Although the exhibition was limited in scope by the difficult situation of 2020, it has nonetheless been a great success. As my very first public showing, it represents an important milestone in my artistic career. At the end of August 2020 we were able to hold a celebratory event together to thank not only the restaurant, but also friends, family and many other art enthusiasts.

All the drawings and paintings which were on display are archived in my gallery, including their stories. However, not just my own creations provide a peek into another world, but also the first-class cuisine of the restaurant would take you on a culinary journey to distant Japan. On that note, I do hope you will have the opportunity to visit the restaurant even beyond the timeframe of my own exhibition.
